Kikyo Shingen Ame
Japanese notation "桔梗信玄飴"
“Kikyo Shingen Ame” made by Kikyoya in Yamanashi Prefecture is a candy made from soybean flour and brown sugar used in their signature product, “Kikyoya Shingen Mochi“.
The candy is individually wrapped and bite-sized, this size compared to a miniature 500 yen coin. The package follows Kikyouya’s unique design with a Kikyo flower pattern firmly in place.
It looks like the “kinako-bo” (soybean flour stick) that you used to see at candy stores.
The texture is soft and chewy, and the flavor of kinako (soybean flour) spreads with the light sweetness of molasses. I imagined it was like a candy, but it is more like a caramel. It is refreshingly sweet and elegant.
It is a kind of “Japanese-style caramel” candy. It is good to take a bite at a moment’s notice. It is a unique candy that can be eaten like a bite-sized caramel even though it has a strong Japanese candy taste.
