Onsen Pan
Japanese notation "温泉パン"
It has been a long time since I have been able to get “Onsen Pan(Onsen bread)” made by Onsen Pan Co. in Sakura City, Tochigi Prefecture. This bread is one of my favorites.(Onsen are hot spring)
The ball-shaped bread has a smooth and beautiful surface. Another characteristic of “Onsen Pan” is that it is heavy for its size.
When cut in half, you can see the “density” of the dough, which is a characteristic of “Onsen Pan”. The dough is very fine, all the way to the middle.
I wonder if it is baked this way when it is evenly heated through. I always wonder how they are baked because the whole bread is evenly fluffy even though it is quite thick.
It has a firm body so it can be sliced cleanly. Personally, I like to slice it thinly.
It has a subtle aroma of wheat and a delicious rustic sweetness. It has a strange texture unique to Onsen Pan, which is very firm. I think it is the best bread as a souvenir from Tochigi.
