Mountain sea urchin, a traditional condiment from the eastern part of Sabae City

“Yama-uni” is a traditional spice from Kawada area in the eastern part of Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, and is made from yuzu (a citrus fruit), fukumi-pepper (red nanba), hawk’s claw, and salt.

“Yama-Uni-Mame” made by Echizen-tai, a company that produces a variety of foods using this spice “Yama-Uni”.

This reminds me sea urchin-flavored fava beans called “Uni-mame” , but this is called “Yama-Uni-Mame” and have a different flavor. The size of the fava beans also seems to be larger than the other and it is quite different view having dots red peppter..
