Peanut Dorayaki
Japanese notation "落花生どら焼(房洋堂)"
“Bouyoudō” is a long-established confectionery company that has been making Japanese and Western sweets in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture since 1923. This time, I bought a “Peanut Dorayaki” which is made with plenty of peanuts, a specialty of Chiba.
The package is labeled “Chiba peanuts,” indicating that peanuts are the main ingredient in the dorayaki.
The fineness of the baked dough is impressive, and the dorayaki crusts on the top and bottom are tightly closed. It also has a heavy weight.
It is covered with a top and bottom dorayaki skin as if glued together.
The bean paste inside appears to be based on white bean paste, but it is richly mixed with peanuts, giving it a slight brown tinge. You can see whole peanuts in some places.
I took a bite and my mouth was flooded with the peanut feeling. The peanuts are soaked in honey and blended with the soft bean paste. The peanuts have a moderate crunchy texture and are delicious. The overall balance of flavors was so perfect that it made me think, “I see, this is a good idea”.
