Uji-Matcha Dorayaki
Japanese notation "宇治抹茶どら焼き( 匠、宇治彩菜)"
This Uji matcha dorayaki is made with matcha produced at the “Shimo-oka Kyūgoro Tea Estate” in Uji, Kyoto. I’m not that familiar with tea, but this matcha tea looks amazing.
As a prestigious tea garden with a history of winning the Emperor’s Cup and the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award, the company also produces a variety of sweets using high-quality matcha from Uji, Kyoto.
I had an image of Kyoto sweets as small and delicate, but the dorayaki appeared quite a bit larger than I had expected.
When split in half, a bright matcha-colored dorayaki dough appeared. The entire dough is matcha-colored and filled with red bean paste.
The green tea dough is fluffy and softly fragrant with a simple sweetness. The entire dorayaki has a standard flavor with azuki bean paste that is not too sweet and does not disappoint. The aromatic matcha dough was very elegant.
