Kurumi manju
Japanese notation "胡桃まんじゅう"
“Sugiyama jusando” in Akita City, Akita Prefecture, makes “Kurumi(walnut) manju” a manju filled with a sweet red bean paste made from walnuts.
The outer dough is distinctive and has the texture of baked bread.
When split in half, the manju dough still looks like “Anpan” dough. It looks very delicious, like a mini-sized “Anpan”. There are many chopped walnuts in the bean paste.
The outer dough is not as soft as bread dough, but has a crispy, sponge cake-like texture. The bread-like appearance is enhanced by the fact that the outside is baked to a golden brown.
The sweet bean paste inside is light and moderately sweet, with a strong walnut flavor that goes well with the manju dough. This combination is a definite delicacy. “Kurumi manju” is like a luxurious sweet bean bun, and is a delicious delicacy for anyone to enjoy.
