Gold Chateau
Japanese notation "ゴールドシャトー"
”Gold Chateau” made by “Jūichiya” a well-known confectionery maker in Yamagata. Chateau means castle in French.
It seems to be a sibling of the “Chillmee” pastry we had before. While Chillmee was a cheese-flavored baked pastry, Gold Chateau is a marron-flavored baked pastry. Incidentally, Gold Chateau was launched in 1967, followed by Chillmee in 1972, so Gold Chateau is the elder brother.
It has been on the market since 1967, so it has been loved for more than 50 years. Chillmee was a pastry wrapped in foil and baked, but Gold Chateau is more like a Western-style manju made with marron.
Inside the dough is a marron cream bean paste, with a slight aroma of Western liquor.
The marron red bean paste is slightly sweet and goes well with the slightly sponge cake-like outer crust. It is best enjoyed with coffee. The retro design of the package gives the sweets a nostalgic and gentle taste.
