Hanayome-Gashi
Japanese notation "花嫁菓子"
”Hanayome-Gashi” made by Asai Seisakusho, who has been running a confectionery in Tokushima Prefecture since 1952 and continues to make traditional Tokushima sweets. “Hanayome” means bride.
In Tokushima, there is a custom called “Hatsu-Aruki” in which the bride walks through the neighborhood greeting her parents’ home and the neighborhood where she is getting married. At this time, the bride presents “Hanayome-Gashi” to her neighbors and children who congratulate her.
This sweets is made of extremely simple ingredients: glutinous rice and sugar. It is colored in light pink, yellow, and a hint of white for good luck.
Most of the pastry-making process, including dough making and baking, is done by hand. You can feel the handmade feeling in each and every shape.
The light texture and melt-in-your-mouth rice crackers. It is a simple yet delicious snack that has been passed down for a long time. The crackers have a wonderful name, “Hanayome-Gashi” and I hope that they will continue to be made in the future.
