Dorayaki Ogura
Japanese notation "どら焼 小倉(回進堂)"
I bought a dorayaki from KaiShindo, a confectioner in Iwate Prefecture famous for its Iwayado-Yokan. It is a large dorayaki with a large amount of sweet bean paste.
Authentic dorayaki appearance.
This one feels very heavy. It is quite tall, and you can tell just by holding it that it is filled with red bean paste. The dorayaki skin is thick and fluffy.
The bean paste is very thick. The color is quite dark. Kaishindo, which is famous for yokan (sweet bean jelly), must be very particular about the bean paste, since it is probably made specially by Kaishindo.
The azuki bean paste is fine-textured and has a sticky, rich flavor. The sweetness of the dorayaki was quite satisfying. On the other hand, the dorayaki crust is simple and fluffy, so I feel that this dorayaki is a kind of “enjoy the azuki bean paste” dorayaki. It was a satisfying dish with a generous volume.
