Kankontan
Japanese notation "甘金丹(かんこんたん)"
“Kankontan” a famous Toyama confectionery made by “Libran,” a confectionery company that operates mainly in Toyama Prefecture, is very famous in Toyama, and is a standard souvenir confectionery along with “Tomiyaman,” also made by Libran.
A custard cream is encased in a sponge cake sponge cake, giving it a slightly Western flavor. It may be quite unique in Echu-Toyama, which has a deep Japanese confectionery culture. The soft sponge cake on the outside has a light texture that makes it easy to eat as many as you like.
The inside is filled with a well-balanced custard cream.
It is often said that it is similar to Sendai’s famous “Hagi no Tsuki” sweets, but having lived in both Toyama and Sendai, and having eaten both often, I can say that the texture of the cream is clearly different. While Hagi no Tsuki is a rather firm custard cream with a strong egg flavor, Kanagintan is a softer, thicker custard cream.
In this photo, you can see that the texture of the cream is much different, even if you like Hagi no Tsuki. Still, the egg-flavored custard cream and the soft sponge cage are a perfect match.
The copy on the package is austere. It looks a bit like a samurai’s resignation, lol.
