Sakura Goyomi
Japanese notation "桜ごよみ"
Mase, a confectioner in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a very long-established confectionery founded in 1872 (Meiji 5). They have been making traditional Japanese sweets using local ingredients, and the “Sakura Goyomi” is a red bean paste and is available for spring season only.
Izu in Atami is known for Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival and Spring comes there earliest in Japan.
Light pink bean paste is formed into a round shape and it is crumbly & mouth melting texture.
Looking at the cross section, we see a tri-colored layer of red bean paste, which is made of white kidney bean and colored slightly.
The colors are reminiscent of spring in Japan. It looks like a Japanese traditional confectionary having a beauty of Wagashi paste.
It is soft and elegantly sweet, as if wasanbon (Japanese sugar made from three kinds of grains) is used. It reminds us of early spring coming in Izu while feel the slight cherry blossoms aroma.
