Ichiroku Tart (Caramel)
Japanese notation "一六タルト (キャラメル)"
“Ichiroku Tart (Caramel)” made by Ichiroku Honpo is a collaboration product with Morinaga Milk Caramel, which is well known nation wide in Japan and everybody has had it at least once in their life. Ichiroku Honpo is a famous confectionery in Shikoku area.
The sponge cake dough wrapps yokan jelly, sweet beans jelly and the confectionary was first made in the Edo period. Morinaga Milk Caramel was made in 1899 so that the both confections have a history more than 100 years. It is exciting to have such collaborated confectionary through the passage of long time.
The yokan part is caramel-colored. It looks delicious already.
The yokan jelly is not actually caramel but rather a caramel-flavored red bean paste.
The caramelized red bean paste and the fluffy sponge cake are exquisite. It is a perfect match. It may be available to buy for a limited time only, but I wish it would become a regular lineup item.
