Shikoku Karst Hoshizora Sanpo

Bouchée sandwiches inspired by the starry sky seen from the Shikoku Karst

“Shikoku Karst Hoshizora Sanpo” made by Nishikawa-ya Roho in Kochi Prefecture is a bouchée cake filled with a generous amount of blueberry cream inside.   Nishikawa-ya is also famous for manufacturing “Kenpi” but they also make this kind of western style of confectionery.

The Shikoku Karst is a karst plateau stretching 25 km east to west between Ehime and Kochi prefectures, and is considered one of the three major karsts in Japan along with Akiyoshidai in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Hiraodai in Fukuoka Prefecture. Their starry sky seen from the plateau as far as we can see is said to be astonishingly beautiful.

The “Shikoku Karst Hoshizora Sanpo” was created in honor of the starry sky of the Shikoku Karst.  It looks like an ordinary bouchée sandwich at the first look.

Surprisingly sufficient amount of bright colored purple blueberry cream is filled inside.  Moreover, the blueberries are grown in Sagawa Town, Kochi Prefecture.

The smooth whipped cream and the subtle tartness of the blueberries go well with the bouquet and it is delicious. I would love to look up at the star-filled sky of Shikoku Karst someday in the future.
