Kurumi-Mochi
Japanese notation "くるみ餅"
Tengudo Housen was established in 1953, who has been making “Kibidango”, millet dumplings since 1973 in Kameda-gun, Hokkaido. “Kurumi Mochi” ,Walnut Rice Cake is their another confectionery. As the name said, the rice cake includes walnuts and the texture is smililar to their signature product “Kibidango”.
Kibidango made in Hokkaido differs from the other “Kibidango” made in Okayama Prefecture. This is made with sticky ingrediients
which are mixed with rice flour, sugar, and syrup, and has evolved in an original way in Hokkaido.
Sticky rice cake stretched into a bar and wrapped in an ”eatable paper”.
I am sure many Japanese are familiar with this look.
It has a nice crunchy texture of many walnuts beyond our expectation. The walnuts is well matched with simple sweetness of Hokkaido-style Kibidango mochi, and the texture is chewy and delicious. I love it.
