Matcha-bō Satsuki

Traditional Kyushu sweets arranged with Matcha

“Matcha-bō Satsuki” made by Noda Seika Honpo in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a matcha-flavored series product of the store’s famous “Kuro-bō” (black stick), which has been produced since the store’s establishment in 1892.

Kuro-bō (black stick)” is made with sugarcane and ginger as the main ingredients, but this is a stick confectionery made with a lot of high-quality Matcha (powdered green tea) produced in Okuyame.

The “Kuro-bō (black stick)” is a traditional baked sweet made mainly in the Kyushu region, and its dough is usually black because of the abundant use of brown sugar. On the other hand, “Shiro-bō” (white stick), which uses white sugar instead of brown sugar, has also been popular, but this “Matcha-bō Satsuki” has a deep green color due to the addition of matcha powder.

The texture of the fluffy yet airy coarse spongy dough is a nice touch.

It is clear that they use high-grade matcha tea sparingly. And above all, it is surprising that sweets of this quality can be purchased for only 76 yen each. It was a product that showed the ability of traditional confectionery made by a long-established store.
