Nihon-Ichi Kibidango

日本一きびだんご

Hokkaido's standard is different from Okayama's Kibidango

Most people associate “kibidango” with Okayama Prefecture, but did you know that there is also a traditional “kibidango” in Hokkaido? The “Japan’s Best Kibidango” made by Tanida Seika was created with the history of Hokkaido’s development and the wish for reconstruction after the Great Kanto Earthquake, and has remained a popular confectionery to this day.

“Nihon-Ichi Kibidango” has been produced since 1923, and was created by the founder of Tanida Seika. Since then, it has become a long-time favorite of Hokkaido residents and is now a major confectionery that can be purchased at convenience stores in Hokkaido.

This is the “Kibidango,” a 30g square mini-size version introduced here, but the 70g rectangular version is generally the major one. The characteristic shape of the kibidango is that it looks like a caramel or a syrup wrapped in an oblong piece of paper.

The candy is wrapped tightly in oblong paper and has a kind of nostalgic feel. The color makes it look like a flat, large caramel, but the texture is completely different.

It is indeed a classic candy that has been loved for nearly 100 years. It is also a great little souvenir at a very affordable price.” Hokkaido’s Kibidango is a famous confectionary with a long history.
