Papa Gonomi

A Furukawa specialty! Traditional rice cracker set that papa will love!

The “Papa Gonomi (Papa’s Favorite)” okaki set made by Selmatsukura Co. in Furukawa City, Miyagi Prefecture, is a fairly major okaki set in Furukawa City, and has been made since 1960, and is loved by the locals as a long-selling product.

The name of the product is unique and interesting. On the front of the package, there is a large sign that reads, “Mom will love it, Dad will love it, 100% domestic rice,” and an illustration of a father and mother, perhaps toasting with beer.

The father with a little mustache is kind of cute. This retro or “Showa-era” feeling is irresistible.

The contents are a lot of small rice crackers with a wide variety. I personally enjoyed the white rice cracker with green laver on it very much.

It contains a whole small horse mackerel. It is a very luxurious item. Each rice cracker has a simple taste, but the high quality is evident, just as one would expect from a rice-producing region.
