Yukari

Japanese notation "ゆか里(明治屋ゆかり店)"
Founded in Niigata City in 1900, Meidi-ya Yukari Store, this store’s “Yukari” is a sugar candy with a very deep tradition.
Grainy arare made from glutinous rice is repeatedly rotated in a large kiln while being sprinkled with sugar. It is a traditional confectionery with a very long history in Niigata.
It looks just like kompeitō, but it is actually a completely different candy. Inside are small “Arare” (small pieces of rice crackers), which are surrounded by a layer of sugar.
Unique shape. I was told that the usual way to eat them is to dissolve them in hot water, but I just ate them as they were. The arare inside makes it light to the palate, and you can enjoy it as if it were a snack.
Each piece is this size and cute. The fact that the arare is firmly placed inside shows the traditional skill of the craftsman.
