Zunda Fresh Cream Daifuku
Japanese notation "喜久福 ずんだ生クリーム大福"
Kikusui-an, a confectionery store of the “Ocha-no-Igata” group, which manufactures and sells tea and confectionery in Aoba-ku, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, produces “Kikufuku Zunda Fresh Cream Daifuku”. When asked for a recommendation of Sendai’s sweets, many people first mention this Daifuku.
It is sold in a semi-frozen state, and is probably like iced Daifuku. There are quite a few different kinds available, but I bought the “Zunda Fresh Cream” because Miyagi is known for Zunda.
It looks like a “zunda-an daifuku,” but let’s take a look at what’s inside.
When cut in half, it is fresh cream wrapped in zunda-an. A luxurious combination of Zunda-an made from edamame (soybeans with dacha beans produced in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture) and whipped cream.
The fresh cream melds with the sweet red bean paste, which has just the right amount of sweetness, to create an elegant and luxurious taste. It is easy to understand why it has become so popular.
