Sankaku Daruma
Japanese notation "民芸菓子 三角だるま"
”Sankaku(Triangle) Daruma” made by “Mogamiya” in Agano City, Niigata Prefecture, is a very cute package.
It is a monaka made in the shape of Sankaku Daruma, a traditional folk craft that has been popular in Agano City for long years.
When I broke open the monaka, I found a filling I had never seen before. It seemed to be white bean paste mixed with shiso.
The shiso-flavored white bean paste has a refreshing and simple taste, and although it is quite filling, it is easily eaten due to the shiso flavor and the light white bean paste.
It looks cute, but it is quite voluminous. There are sweets that weave together the traditions of various regions throughout the country, and it is truly wonderful to see the ideas and execution of these attempts to preserve them in a tangible form.
