Tsukisamu Anpan
Japanese notation "月寒あんぱん"
Founded in 1906 and headquartered in Toyohira-ku, Sapporo, Honma’s “Tsukisamu Anpan” is a historical “Anpan” that was born during the development of Hokkaido and has been a part of its history.
At that time, the foundation of Sapporo was still being laid, and this Tsukisamu Anpan was distributed as a snack to soldiers who were engaged in the construction of a road connecting National Routes 36 and 453 in what is now Toyohira-ku.
Tsukisamu Anpan, which has made its mark on Hokkaido’s history, has a thin but firm dough and is packed with anko (sweet bean paste).
The dough is firm and savory! The sweet bean paste inside is also light and sweet with little water content, making it a crispy and easy-to-eat kind of bean bun. It is dense and has a shelf life of about one month, probably because it is made with less water content. It is indeed a traditional sweet that fits the rational culture of Hokkaido.
