Gokatteya-Yokan
Japanese notation "五勝手屋羊羹"
Yokan made by Gokatteya Honpo, a Japanese confectioner established in Esashi Town, Hokkaido in the Meiji era, comes in a round paper tube package.
When the lid is opened, the tube is filled with yokan, the top of which is hardened with sugar, and this part is also delicious.
When eating this yokan, the yokan is pushed out from the bottom and cut with the string attached to the package. This string serves a very important function.
When the bottom is pushed out, yokan appears, and the process of “cutting the yokan with a string” is also a pleasant experience.
It is designed so that you can enjoy as much or as little as you want. The color of yokan is redder and brighter than other yokan, but this is due to the use of “kintoki-mame” (kidney beans), which is rare for yokan.
This yokan is a bit light and has a strong bean flavor. Gokatteya’s Yokan has been loved in Hokkaido for a long time, and we are always impressed by its delicious and functional.
