Hon-no-Kimocho
Japanese notation "本之木餅"
“Honnoki Mochi” is made by confectioner Rokubei in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture. It is written in Chinese characters, but I think the sound reading is over the word “Hon-no-kimoch”, which means “It’s just a little something from me”.
The red package with a golden circle on it, gives it a luxurious look. It has the appearance of a standard manjuu, but the texture of the dough is a bit unique.
The manju dough is quite thin but feels chewy and elastic. The bean paste inside seems to be mixed with molasses, giving it a molasses aroma.
The rich red bean paste goes well with the chewy manju dough. It is quite firm and sweet. It is a bit expensive for a bun with red bean paste, but it was a satisfying bun.
