Harimanada-Monogatari
Japanese notation "はりまなだ物語"
I wondered if “Harimanada Monogatari” was referring to the title of Ryotaro Shiba’s historical novel. I thought so, but the package of the confectionery looks completely Western-style.
It is like a bite-sized cake. It is a baked good that is baked to a golden brown and looks like a baked cheesecake.
When you break it open, you find fruit inside, apparently apples cut into dice and jam-like. It is elaborate to have fruit inside a bite-sized cake.
The cake portion is well baked and has a standard deliciousness, somewhere between a madeleine and a cookie.
The origin of the name of the cake, “Harimanada Monogatari,” remains a bit of a mystery, but it was a lovely, carefully crafted, bite-sized cake.
