Houki-Bou
Japanese notation "伯耆坊(ほうきぼう)"
We would like to introduce “Houki-Bou” made by “Saiundo” a long-established Japanese confectionery store established in 1874 in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture.
This unique shape, which looks like a slightly chipped circle, represents the shape of a “tengu’s fan,” and is said to be the common name of a legendary tengu that lives in Daisan, the highest mountain in the Chugoku region.
It is made of hardened azuki beans and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Inside there is a filling of gyuhi. The tsubuan azuki beans have retained their shape quite well, and the red bean paste is not too sweet, making use of the original flavor of the azuki beans. Of course, the gyuhi goes well with it.
It is a long-selling product that has been loved by customers since the 1960s. When served with a cup of strong sencha green tea, it was a truly royal Japanese confectionery.
