Ganso Jindan Daifuku
Japanese notation "元祖 じんだん大福"
I bought the “Ganso Jindan Daifuku” made by “Jindan Honpo Oue” in Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture. “Jindan” is a dialect word from the Okitama region of Yamagata Prefecture, meaning “mashed edamame (Zunda) mixed with sugar to make a sweet red bean paste. In neighboring Miyagi Prefecture, it is called “Zunda. I think “Zunda” is more famous.
Round, white, cute-sized mochi daifuku.
When cut in half, the beautiful light green bean paste is tightly packed. The color of the edamame (soybeans) remains intact and contrasts vividly with the white of the rice cake.
The texture of the edamame is still there, and the rice cake is fresh, soft, very stretchy, and delicious. The rice cake does not seem to last very long, but that cannot be helped for its deliciousness!
It is surprising how flavorful and delicious edamame can be when made into red bean paste.
