Chitose (Morihachi)

Perfection backed by tradition.

I bought a traditional confectionery “Chitose” from “Morihachi,” a confectionery shop with a history dating back to 1625.

A small manju wrapped in elegant Japanese paper.

The surface is generously sprinkled with pink wasanbon sugar. Although small, it is packed tightly and has a heavy weight.

Delicious! The firm texture of the gyuhi that wraps around the outside is a perfect match with the anko inside. It’s like a very luxurious mochi with red bean paste.

The mochi is sweet, but not at all unpleasantly so. It is small but quite filling. It is a perfect snack for tea time. I felt the tradition of the sweets.
