Satsukigase-senbei
Japanese notation "五月ヶ瀬煎餅"
Satsukigase-senbei is the most famous rice cracker in Fukui. The maker Gokashidokoro Satsukigase was established in 1973 and has been selling Satsukigase-senbei since 1975. Needless to say, it is very authentic.
The ingredients are simple, such as peanuts, eggs, sugar, and flour, but they are carefully selected. They are stone-roasted rice cracker, baked piece by piece, simple flavour and delicate rice cracker texture. It is interesting texture, feeling more like a Japanese-style hard cookie other than a rice cracker.
“Ishigama Senbei” is shown on one side, and a crest of three oak trees is stamped on the other side. Such presence of company name and family crest on the product itself looks cool.
Flour seems to be the main ingredient, and the outside is like cookie dough and there are many peanuts included. The peanuts carefully selected to match for Satsukigase Senbei to give nice flavour crunchy texture.
It tastes rustic and cannot stop eating another pieces. You can feel its high quality of the ingredients and how carefully it was made. The taste goes well with coffee. It is no wonder that it has been popular in Fukui for years.
