Kurofune Castella

One of the Castella powerhouses in recent years, its roots seem to date back to 1919.

Kurofune Castella” made by Kurofune confectionery,  whose main store locates in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo, has recently become a well-known product. Seince the castella has been giving us an image of a popular sponge cake in the last 10 years, the confectionery’s history sounds like not so long, however, their roots belong to Nagasaki-do with a long histroy dating back to 1919.

The “Kurofune” brand celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2023, and it is understandable that the know-how cultivated over the long history has produced high-quality sponge cakes. The package is well sophisticated design.

It looks a little taller and sllender than other standard castella.

Also, comparing to many famous Nagasaki castella, the texture is fluffy rather than moist. High-quality Castella often feel heavy and heavy though,  the texture of Kurofune’s Castella is more fluffy.

The sponge cake dough is light yet full-bodied, not too heavy yet rich in flavor. The package design and even the taste are refined and sharp. The taste is as good as expected.
