Cute sweet bun, manju named after a legend of raccoon dogs

“Tanuki Manju” a sweet bun, made by Tanuki Honpo in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, has been popular there over 90 years. This sweet bun is named after the legend of “Kizaemon Tanuki”喜左衛門狸     The outer package is, by all means, very cute.

It is natural wanting to buy a box of these expressions when you see many of them on the shelf at the store.

Each sweet bun has a different look and they are enjoyable.

It is a bite-size sweet bun wrapped sweet pasted bean jam.

It is made elaborately so small, like a miniature, and is adorable.

Since the pasted bean jam tasts light sweetness, we never get tired of it.  There are other manju, sweet buns  in the Shikoku region, such as “Kincho manju” in Tokushima Prefecture, which is  associated with a legend of raccoon dog. The package design is surely a good souvenir for kids.
