Tanabe’s Karinto
Japanese notation "たなべのかりん糖"
“Tanabe’s Karinto”, fried dough cookies, made by Tanabe Kashiho locates in Kamo City, Niigata Prefecture, is a distinctive at its size. Tanabe Kashiho has been focusing making karinto since they established in 1927, and it has been widely well known and loved in local for many years.
Each piece is about 11cm~12cm long and individually wrapped.
On the contrary of the rough appearance, looked like a typical karinto, the surface is a slightly moist texture.
It is not as hard as it looks like and it is crispy while broke it.
It tastes brown sugar and the sweetness is surprisingly light, and the dough inside had a biscuit-like texture. It is like eating a cookie. It is big and volumy. I think the natural sweetness is the reason why it has been popular for many years.
