Kodai-Aoimochi

Bite-size straw rice cakes with impressive crest mark

Bizenya, established their business 230 years ago in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, and the founder started making confections at the Tokaido Denmajuku of the Okazaki domain.

“Kodai-Aoimochi” made by Bizenya is a cute bite-sized rice cake.  It is bracken-starch dumpling, made from strawbaked rice with a portion of ancient “red rice” and Sanuki Japanese molasses. It includes 9 pcs and  each package printed motif of hollyhock copied crest mark of the Tokugawa family.

Three hollyhocks on a circle is the symbol crest mark of Tokugawa family. Okazaki City is known as the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Although the design of the crest on each package is different, the rice cakes are all the same.

Since they are very soft, each one is placed in a plastic case. When it is served on a plate, we can see the bottom stamped with the hollyhock’s crest.

Sanuki Japanese molasses is wrapped in a soft strawbaked rice cake. It tastes delicious, natural sweetness and hard to get bored with the sweetness. Even though the size is compact, it gives satisfaction.
