Baumkuchen contains real onions pulp

Cafe Maaru, locates in Sumoto City, Hyogo Prefecture, is a baumkuchen workshop who produces many different type of baumkuchen. One of the most unique baumkuchen is the one I bought this time, which is made from onions, a specialty of Awaji Island.

Onions are a specialty in Sumoto City, and using it for a baumkuchen is a rather novel idea.

It looks like a standard baumkuchen.

When I splited it, I sensed onion flavor.

Basically, it tastes baumkuchen, but the onion flavor comes from the pulp in the dough. The natural onion sweetness strangely goes well with the baumkuchen dough, giving it a unique flavor.
