Kincho-Manju
Japanese notation "金長まんじゅう"
“Kincho-Manju” made by “Halleruya” a confectioner in Tokushima Prefecture, has been loved as an Awa specialty since its creation in 1937, and is so famous in Tokushima that there is no one who does not know about it.
The “Awa Raccoon War” is also the motif of Ghibli’s film “Heisei Raccoon War Ponpoko”. The name of the leader raccoon in the folk tale is Kincho Tanuki, and the “Kincho Manju” is named after him.
This manju, created in 1937, uses chocolate for the skin to express the color of a raccoon dog, and it was very rare to use chocolate for the skin of manju at that time.
With a history of more than 80 years, this manju has now firmly become a famous confectionery representing Tokushima.
The chocolate manju skin is full of cocoa powder and has a bittersweet taste. The light sweetness of the white bean paste is a well-balanced taste. It is no wonder that it has become a longtime standard.
