Ishiyāki-imo
Japanese sweet bun featured sweet potato
Japanese notation "バナナケーキ(モンテドール)"
“Banana Cake” made by “Montedor” on Miyako Island, Okinawa Prefecture, is a pound cake that has been loved for over 40 years as a representative souvenir of Miyako Island.
The cake was first made by local confectioners during the postwar American occupation period, and has been enjoyed to this day as a unique Okinawan flavor.
The cake batter, richly kneaded with aged bananas, has a mellow banana aroma when broken in half.
The banana aroma and the pound cake are in excellent harmony, and the refined sweetness is delicious. It is a very high quality pound cake. Recently, it has been used as a tea cake on JAL’s first class flights, which is understandable.
