Pique-nique Castella
Japanese notation "ピケニケカステラ"
Founded in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture in 1884, the “Pique-nique Castella” made by the confectioner “Kaiundo” has a history of over 130 years and is made with 100% Nagano flour.
The packaging design of “Kaiundo’s” confectionery is distinctive, as is the previously introduced “Koreha-Umai” . The illustrations, which look like modern prints, are very catchy.
The name “Pique-nique Castella” is derived from the Portuguese word “pique-nique” meaning “excursion” in Portugal, the homeland of Castella,
The name was chosen because each slice is individually packaged in a sealed package so that it can be easily taken on excursions.
In addition, I was pleased to see that although it was called a “slice” but it was a very thick slice.
Fluffy yet moist, it is a royal delicacy as a sponge cake. The egg flavor is rich and luxurious. The thickness of each slice was amazing, so it was a very satisfying and voluminous sponge cake.
