Kurogane-mochi

The name comes from a tree that bears fruit in winter.

“Kurogane-mochi” is a soft rice cake made from brown rice flour, brown sugar, and walnuts and kneaded by “Fūryū-dō” a very old shop established in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture in 1890.

The name “Kurogane-mochi” is derived from “Kurogane-mochi” a tree that bears small red berries in autumn and winter. So it is the name of a plant.

Two rectangular rice cakes in a tray, covered with soybean flour.

The shape is quite solid and angular, but feels very soft in the hand.

The cross section is a black rice cake that clearly shows that it is made of brown rice flour and brown sugar.

It has a delicious aromatic flavor of brown rice flour and walnuts, and the soft sweetness of brown sugar. It is a high quality Japanese confectionery made with simple ingredients and has a high degree of perfection.
