The Chinese restaurant “Suzhou Lin” in Nishisonogi-gun, Nagasaki Prefecture is located in Nagasaki Chinatown, and also produces a confectionary called “Mafāle” is a traditional Chinese snack called “Mafar” that is made in the northern part of China, especially in Beijing.

The word “Mafāle” means “twisted thread” and it is made by hand-weaving each strand.

It has a unique look like a twisted doughnut.

It is so hard that it takes a lot of strength in the jaw to bite into it. It is almost like a karintō, but with much less sweetness, and although it seems to be fried in oil, it has a rustic taste.

Ingredients include high-quality Kyushu wheat flour and Hokkaido beet sugar, which is also served in school lunches in Nagasaki.
