Kuri-manju

Lovely Taisho-Roman-inspired store and sumptuous Japanese sweets

“Kuri-manju” made by Hougetsudo, a very long-established confectionery store in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, which has been in business since 1917. Hougetsudo’s store has a historical style that only a long-established store can have, and its appearance is the very embodiment of “Taisho Romanticism”. You can see a glimpse of the very nice store on this page.

Hougetsudo’s “Kuri-manju” is packaged in a long and narrow box, even though it is a manju. When we opened the box, the reason for the long and narrow box was obvious.

It looks long, thin, and sharp, but it is very heavy and voluminous. The length is about 10 cm, which is quite large for a single manju.

When you break it in half, you will find chestnuts wrapped in white bean paste and filled with chestnuts.

The moist texture of the manju manju skin and the light sweetness of the chestnut red bean paste. It is a luxurious chestnut manju from a long-established Japanese confectionery shop that evokes a sense of Taisho Romanticism.
