English Toast Rusk
Japanese notation "イギリストーストラスク"
I found a rusk version of “English Toast“, a well-known soul food of Aomori Prefecture, and bought it. Kudo Bakery, a bread manufacturer and seller in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, produces many unique sweet breads and is a major player in the Tohoku region.
The Union Jack symbol on the packaging is unique.
It contains three miniature pieces of toast, but the granules of pomelo sugar attached around them are extremely large. The rusk itself is thin and light, but the pomegranate sugar gives it a substantial volume.
Compared to a 500-yen coin, this is the size of such a piece of toast, a fairly small, bite-sized piece of toast.
When cracked open, the rusk is thin and crispy, but the coarsely coated surface feels lumpy anyway.
The butter flavor and the sweetness of the white pomelo sugar are delicious. The large grains of white cake sugar reproduce the “crunchy texture” that is synonymous with English toast, and the rusk is very satisfying despite its bite size.
