Tone-no-Umedora

とねの梅どら

Gorgeous looking plum paste is filled with a lot of bean paste.

“Tone Confectionery” in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, seems to be a long-established confectionery that focuses on making sweets using ume (Japanese apricot). This time, I bought “Tone-no-Umedora”.

I had never had a plum dorayaki before and was curious to find out what it was all about. The package is generally plum-colored, and when you hold it in your hand, it is quite heavy.

The dough of the dorayaki is quite sizzling and moist enough to feel as if it contains honey. Inside the dorayaki, there seems to be quite a lot of red bean paste, giving it an amazing sense of volume.

When cut it in half, I was surprised to find that the whole bean paste is plum-colored. As you can see, there are no gaps in the dorayaki, and it is filled with plum paste.

The color of this plum paste is extremely beautiful. Ume plum is kneaded into the white bean paste, and the bean paste is pale pink.

The white bean paste base is made with ume paste, which makes the overall flavor light and refreshing. The sweetness of the bean paste is very refreshing. The crust is thicker than the other mochi, but it is quite moist and sweet, and is well balanced with the ume bean paste inside.
