Ōmikami-mochi
Japanese notation "大御神餅"
“Ōmikasmi-mochi” made by “Iwatoya” in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. The design of the outer box is unique. Amaterasu Omikami appears from Iwato with a divine halo. This is a scene from the legend of Ama-no-Iwato, an all-too-famous scene in mythology.
The shop of name the ”Iwatoya” restaurant also seems to have been named after this myth.
Incidentally, the Otafuku-san illustration on the wrapping paper, “Otafuku-jirushi,” is the name of Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, who appears in the oldest existing Japanese history book, Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters). It is said to be the prototype of Japanese beauty, but it may be a little different from the modern aesthetic sense..lol
This is a confectionery associated with the myth of Ise, a place with a rich history. Mochi manju (rice cake) covered with kinako (soybean flour).
The color of the bean paste is a little unusual, but it seems that brown sugar is used as the main ingredient to achieve this color and texture.
It is thick, chewy, and has a delicious elastic texture. It is a traditional style of confectionery unique to Ise, but it is a mochi manjuu with a new and delicate flavor.
