Ogura-Awase
Japanese notation "小倉あわせ"
Founded in 1946 in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture, Wakayama Shoten is a confectionery shop that continues to make sweets using local Tochigi ingredients. This time, I bought “Ogur-Awase” at the “Tochimaru Shop” in Tokyo Solamachi, the shopping arcade of Tokyo Sky Tree.
The wheat-based dough sandwiches Ogura-an (sweet bean paste) in between, similar to a dorayaki, but with a distinctive crust and thin pancake-like texture.
The wheat dough crust has a slightly mochi-like texture and is filled with a sweet bean paste sandwiched between two pieces of wheat dough.
The azuki bean paste has a firm sweetness and a good flavor of azuki beans, which goes well with the rustic flavored crust.” It’s like a wheat Japanese pancake sandwiched with azuki bean paste.” It’s the perfect quick snack.
