Genji-maki
Japanese notation "源氏巻 (三松堂)"
I bought “Genjimaki” from “Mimatsudo” in Kanzoku-gun, Shimane Prefecture. Genjimaki is a famous confectionery in Shimane Prefecture. It seems to have its roots in the Tsuwano area of Shimane Prefecture, and many confectionery stores, especially in this area, seem to make Genjimaki.
The packaging of Mimatsudo’s “Genji Maki” also has a nice, stylish design, with a faint carp swimming in the background.
A long piece of sponge cake dough appears. Cutting this into little pieces and eating them makes you feel luxurious.
A sheet of sponge cake dough is used to wrap the sweet bean paste.
I always like to cut them into strips, usually about 1 cm long.
The very light red bean paste and moist sponge cake dough are the most delicious.
The town of Tsuwano in Shimane Prefecture is also called “Little Kyoto in the San’in region” and is famous for its beautiful townscape like an ancient city full of emotion and for being the birthplace of Ogai Mori, a great writer.
