Self-assembled monaka modeled after Marugame Castle

The “Marugame Oshiro(Castle) Monaka” made by Hougetsudo, a very long-established shop with a history of over 100 years in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, is a monaka shaped like Marugame Castle, famous for its stone walls.

This monaka is a handmade monaka that you assemble yourself just before eating. When you open the package, you will find two pieces of monaka skin in the shape of Marugame Castle and plastic-packed red bean paste.

Carefully place the anko (sweet bean paste) out to one side of the monaka and attach the monaka to it. The skin of the monaka is crispy and thick, so it is not so easy to fall apart when assembled by yourself.

Done! Great, it will stand on its own. Marugame Castle is now standing in front of us. The stone walls are huge. The presence of the magnificent stonewalls of Marugame Castle is clearly expressed.

The crispy monaka skin and azuki red bean paste made with starch syrup are sweet and delicious. The elaborate stone wall of Marugame Castle is a symbol of the castle’s attachment to its skin.
