Maru-Bouro

Japanese notation"丸ぼうろ(肥前)"
Although often eaten daily, it is actually a traditional Saga confectionery.
“Maru-Bouro” is one of the famous confections representing Saga City in Saga Prefecture. Although it is a nationally familiar confectionery, its roots are deep in history, dating back to the era of the Nanban trade.
Various confectioners in Saga Prefecture make so-called “Saga famous sweets,” but this time I bought “Maru-Bouro” made by Otsubo Seika in Saga City.
Disk-shaped sponge cake dough, traditional form.
This coarse texture of the sponge cake dough is what I like about it. Because it contains a lot of air, it is light to the touch and has a nice dry texture while being moist overall.
It has a nice, simple sweetness and texture. These sweets are made with high quality flour from Saga Prefecture, eggs, glutinous rice, starch syrup, honey, and other ingredients. It has a simple yet appealing flavor that you will never get tired of.
