The name “biscout” is what it was called before it was called “biscuit” today. It was introduced to Japan around 1550 A.D. by the Nanban confectionery, and was called this way until around the Meiji era (1868-1912).

The size is quite large and each piece is voluminous. The center of the cookie is decorated with a gaslight pattern, a symbol of civilization.

Of course, it has the crispiness of a biscuit, but due to the cream inside and the thick dough, the inside has a slightly moist texture, a bit like a rich biscuit.

The inside is slightly moist and the overall texture is soft. The chocolate cream is not too sweet and flavorful, but it adds a luxurious taste. These cookies have a slightly special feel to them, and it is easy to see why they have long been a popular souvenir.
