Nago-yan
Japanese notation "なごやん"
You probably eat PASCO bread in your daily life, but did you know that Shikishima Baking Company, which operates the PASCO brand, used to make a famous Nagoya confectionery? The name is “Nagoyan,” and it has been a long-selling product for nearly 60 years.
The package also features an illustration of a shachihoko. The design is a “Nagoya famous confectionery”.
The dough is made of fine-textured manju dough. The top part is baked to a golden brown and looks like a small bun, and it is quite substantial for its size.
When I split it in half, I found a sweet red bean paste with a crunchy texture. The Shikishima Baking Company’s website says that this is “yolk bean paste” and that the best balance has been achieved through years of trial and error, and that the flavor has been gradually improved over the past 60 years. The company’s website also says that the taste has been improved little by little over the past 60 years.
It is indeed delicious. After all, the manju dough is delicious. I am convinced that this is the manju dough that Shikishima Baking Company has been researching for years and has arrived at. It is a simple and delicious taste that is sure to become a standard Nagoya famous confectionary. It is also nice that it has a large volume.
