Tsuki-kage
Japanese notation "月影(亀屋清永)"
Kyoto’s “Kameya Kiyonaga” is a very long-established confectionery in Gion, Kyoto, that has been in business since 1617, or more than 400 years ago. This time, I would like to try “Tsukikage” made by “Kameya Kiyonaga”.
The package design is modern and beautiful as well as Kyoto-like.
It looks like a brown sugar and walnut yokan-like candy. It is thinly sliced arch-shaped yokan with plenty of walnuts.
The refined sweetness of a Kyoto-style confectionery and the taste of walnuts are exquisite. The quality of the ingredients may be a factor, but despite the brown sugar, there is no sticky sweetness at all, but a rich yet fragrant sweetness.
The rich yet refreshing sweetness, combined with the savory flavor of walnuts, made me think it was a carefully calculated confectionery.
