Shimanto-Kuri-no-madeleine
Japanese notation "しまんと栗のマドレーヌ"
Chestnut madeleines made by “Aoyagi”, a confectionery in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture. The package has a cute illustration of a chestnut.
Open the package, a tall, lovely, round madeleine in the shape of a chestnut appears. The top of the madeleine is probably a “chestnut”.
It seems that large ”Shimanto chestnuts” are baked with the astringent skin still attached, and the madeleines are made by kneading ”Shimanto chestnut” red bean paste into the dough as well.
The chestnut-flavored madeleines were delicious and a perfect match. The website of Aoyagi’s confectionery describes it as “bite-size,” but it is a nice size, maybe 2 to 3 bites in size. It was a nice madeleine with the flavor of “Shimanto chestnuts” (local chestnuts).
